So, we got a new camera last month and I have not been able to blog b/c I couldn't find the cord to get all the photos off our camera to put on our blog, but today I finally found it in the most likely place in the camera box! Duh- So anyways were back.

Last month over 4th of July I went to visit my Mom for the day while Jody was working in Clinton and I feel like I went back into time and relived my grandparents and parents era. We visited The Route 66 Museum in Elk City. Which had 4 different buildings. We took lots of pictures too!

National Transportation Museum (like the Route 66 Museum, but a little more hands-on)

This building had theater which plays a film that covers the entire history of Rout66.

The Blacksmith Museum (which actually still operates).

All the Museums contained compelling exhibits and gave a good overview of the famous highway with antiques, cars, murals, and interesting information.

Caoitol Visitor Center

After touring the Texas State Capitol we went to The Capitol Visitor's Center,which is oldest state office building in Texas. Inside there are lots of learning exhibits and Texas memorabilia.

Fascinating...

Saturday we went to the much talked about "Our Body The Universe Within"exhibit that is here at the Science Museum. It was a in-depth look at who we are under our skin. The exhibit displays actual human bodies and organs. There are displays of bones, muscles, arteries, and human flesh. I know sound strange and unusual, but it was actually very educational and interesting. I urge everyone to go if you get the chance.

While we were at the museum, we took a few pics while playing around on a voice distorter. We were talking back and forth to each other. The different controls make your voice sound fast, slow, or even as if you were underwater- pretty funny.

A Dose of Oklahoma History

Last weekend we went to Oklahoma's History Center in OKC. The building sits on 18 acres of land. Inside there were 4 main galleries.

• Sports, Diversity, Culture, Art, and Entertainment.

• Indian Life in OK, Spirituality, and Languages.

• Military Life, African Americans, and Transportation.

• Frontiers, Farm & Ranch, Quilts, Politics, Law & Order, and Fashions.

We learned a lot of things that we didn't know about Oklahoma and a few we had forgotten! It was a very neat place to visit. I think i enjoyed the Sports, Entertainment, and Frontiers the best. I loved the glowing stars hung up above in one of the galleries, it was so peaceful to look up at. I'm glad to say I went and took so many pictures, I wanted to post more...

Ancient Stone:

I found this small exhibit very interesting....these are actual stones from the City of Jerusalem.

Hallmark Visitors Center:

The Hallmark Visitors Center in Kansas City is a Hallmark timeline exhibit where historical artifacts reflect various eras & trends throughout the 20th century into the new millennium. Greeting cards, ornaments, commercials, & movie specials memorabilia are all on display. I even got to make a star-shaped bow created from the press of a button on the bow machine pictured below-

Norman Rockwell Exhibit at Union Station, Kansas City:

We visited the largest Norman Rockwell Exhibit in the world. The interactive display of Rockwell's famed works let you travel back through time and look at portrayals of everyday American life. The exhibit features over 100 Saturday Evening Post covers, 35 life size sculptures of Rockwell's most famed characters, and a recreation of Rockwell's studio.

Visitng the OKC Memorial Museum

Dorrie, Liz, & I finally got to visit The Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum today for the 1^st time. The devastating act of domestic terrorism took place on April 19, 1995. (The bombing of The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building) We have all been to the memorial several times, but never thru the museum. It was a moving experience to visit the museum, which gave me a sense of the destruction (physical & emotional) that took place. 168 lives were taken and many today are altered because of one dismal act. I encourage you to visit if you are near OKC and ever have the opportunity to experience the memorial and museum.
